Museum Garden

Introduction/Abstract

A green recreation area for museum visitors and everyone in the government quarter.

“Look, smell, feel, observe – the museum garden appeals to all the senses.”

Herbs exude ethereal fragrances, the sound of buzzing insects hangs in the air, a lizard dashes to hide in a crack in the wall … this is a place to experience nature. And if you climb up the terraces, the view from higher up will give you yet another new perspective.

The garden is open to all, not only museum visitors.

Playground

The area along the Shedhall presented itself as the ideal place for a new, exciting and attractive playground at the Museum Lower Austria. It was designed by the Playground Office of the Lower Austrian Families Department as a living gate to nature and particularly Lower Austria’s fauna. It is also a bridge connecting the Nature Zone on the inside and the garden.

Four play elements in the form of “animal boxes” were designed to symbolize mammals (Animal Box COW“), insects (“Insect Box Beetle”) and birds (“Bird Box Chick") and a revolving flower (small carousel) make the exhibition’s “Animals” theme visible on the outside.
